How to overcome emotional pain for good?
Emotional pain is one of the primary reasons people seek therapy. It forces us to live in our illusions, miles away from reality.
Emotional pain is one of the primary reasons people seek therapy. It forces us to live in our illusions, miles away from reality. This, in turn, affects our thought process and our ability to think wisely. We judge ourselves, and at times, be harsh too.
Understanding the root cause of the pain is the only way to overcome the pain, once and for all. I know this sounds tough and far-fetched, but I am here to make it easier for you.
When in pain, stop letting your thoughts take over you,
Instead of letting your thoughts take over you, take a step back, and reflect on the thoughts in the moment of despair. Become aware of what you allow into your mind. This will help you be more aware of your thought process.
Next, question each thought as they come in. The most powerful question to ask here is “WHY.”
For example, if you had a recent breakup, and thoughts like “I am not good enough” are populating your mind, ask yourself, “Why are you not good enough, and why is that thought originating in the first place.”
Once you start questioning yourself, you move away from the pain and are focused on finding a solution to the pain.
Subconsciously, you are changing the meaning of the situation from a negative one to a positive one. As soon as you achieve this, the pain will vanish in seconds.
If the above still seems challenging, you can talk to yourself, similar to how you would speak to a dear one sharing your pain to reduce the burden.
Sharing your problems and pain with others is a great way to get rid of the pain. However, in most cases, we are left alone, with no one around to share with. In such circumstances, just talk to yourself, and let everything out.
Personally speaking, this has worked wonders for me.
In a nutshell, live in reality and not in your illusions.
